Wall Art, Wall Handings, or Extra Large Wall Arts. Wall decor ideas for the Perfect living room.

In theory, buying art seems easy because, well, it is pretty. But in reality, it does not come naturally for everyone. So, it may end up a frustrating process. Even with buying only wall decor, there is so much to consider, such as the size, color, and style. It is easy to get lost and forget all the fun. And it is fun, you know? Just think of your wall as an empty canvas. By adding color, it is like you are showing off your personality. Plus, you are creating your own piece of art. Keep that in mind and enjoy the process. Do not worry: we are here to lead you through it toward the perfect wall decor.

How much wall space do you have available?

We are sure you thought about this already, but it is good to mention it again: Did you measure your space? You do not want to buy a big piece of art, only to realize you do not have where to put it. For example, if you have a wide wall you want to cover, just then consider large-scale decor. And also, do not forget about the height of your ceiling.

Did you think of the gallery wall? You know, bringing various pieces together? Now, this is independent whatever you have a small or big area. But you must think of style and colors! Because not everything matches together. We will speak more about this a bit later. At the moment, let us see where do you start with the size? Larger items go first, before small ones. Why is that? Because they are the first people will notice. So, smaller ones are more there to fill in any holes in your room decor. Anyway, they will quickly sum up! Thus, it is an easy task to get them.

The following are examples of categories depending on the style:

  • Oversizes – 39.37 ″ or larger in length, go well over a big-sized couch, bed, or table
  • Large – 31,5” – 39” in lenght, the main part in a gallery wall
  • Medium – 23,6” – 31,4” in length, ideal for stand-alone or in pair of two
  • Small – 17,7” – 23,6” in lenght for putting together two to six pieces
  • Mini – 9,8” – 17,7” in length, only for grouping

Either way, take care of balance! If you are putting a picture above the sofa, it should not be two-thirds wider than it. Besides, keep your decor at a minimum of 5 to 10 inches over the side of your furniture.

The rules of the perfect location

You hang the decor you super like, and you are expecting to enjoy it now. But you don’t. Your neck would hurt if you want to look at it because it not at your eye level. That is a common mistake! What is the golden rule? Place it somewhere between 57 and 60 inches from the floor, at your eye level. But of course, if your ceiling is higher than eight feet, your decoration could be higher too.

Bellow, we are listing you few positions:

  • Centered, Over a Furniture – 5 to 10 inches above the furniture
  • Stand-alone – Your decoration does not to be standing over any furniture but must be about 57 inches above the ground
  • Cropped into two halves – If you have a large picture, you may crop it into two and frame them separately. Keep four inches between them. Plus, we suggest placing them over a furniture
  • Gallery Wall – If they are stand-alone, hang them about 57″ from the ground. If you want them to go above something, place them directly above the center of the piece of furniture
  • Just Lean It, Without Hanging

Is your room in neutral tones? Then we would suggest rich and colorful wall decor to add to the cheerfulness. Or are there already lots of colors and patterns? And what about mixing styles? It is okay to do a mixture or to stick to one genre. Your wall is a chance to express yourself. After all, there is no set formula for pairing art, as long as it feels right.

How to choose a color like a pro?

We get it that there are so many color patterns, and it is easy to get overwhelmed. But if you know the trick from designers, this may be the simplest task ever!

First, what is the most extensive color scheme in your room? You could pick colors you like from there. But how intensive should they be? Interior space mimics the outside world. So, the floor should be darker, since the ground is darker too. The ceiling should be lighter since the sky is lighter too. And wall should be the average color values as the things we look at in front of us.

The contrast between warm and cool is always effective. If your wall is gray, put some decoration with warm colors shade. Either way, remember what you like it is what is the matter! For example, if you want to put red in your bathroom, no designer should tell you not to do it!

Should you get Prints or Original Paintings?

We are sure you already know this, but let us avoid confusion! Original Paintings are painted by the artists, and usually, there is just one piece of them. Original Prints are hand-made things on a metal plate or at the stone, also by the artist. There might be more than one of them, but commonly they come in limited editions. And Art Prints are copies of some artwork, created with a printer.

How to decide which one you should buy? Take a think of what you can afford. Sure, it is beautiful to support the artist by buying his work. And it is great to have it on your wall. But is it too expensive at this moment for you? After all, there are many tremendous good-looking prints.

Flower Canvas Prints

Still, you must be sure what do you buying. For example, in the original painting, you can see how the brush was moved around. So, it will be a rough paper, while a print will be on the matrix pattern, same as magazine posters. The painting will have uneven parts, and prints will have all sharp. From this, you might even think that prints are a better option! That is if you are not deeply art lover. Those will miss the smell of an original! Another con of print is an identification number and a copyright logo, but it is in small letters.

An ode to the season

Each season is beautiful in its own way. That is why it is pleasing to enjoy each of them! Now, we are not talking about renovations of your whole house, just about adding a few details.
