How I like to decorate my home with Pothos AKA Devil’s Ivy

“And just like an Ivy plant, we grow where there is room” — Anonymous

Pothos is also known as Devil’s Ivy. It is a vine that grows out with minimal maintenance and can cover the walls and other places like floors, roofs, and tables. I love their ability to grow anywhere and everywhere with ease. They can easily grow in each direction if there is space. I fancy decorating my home with Pothos because it can cover any area with its simple extensive root system and spread its greenery. Pothos plant has big shiny leaves with refreshing colors and comes in several varieties.

Why do I prefer going for Faux Pothos?

●     Well, for starters I love the freedom to choose from different varieties of Pothos which are not available in fresh plants but can be easily found in the faux states.

●     I like the idea of not having to check up on them from time to time so they don’t wilt. I also love the no-maintenance protocol with faux Pothos.

●     There is no need for sunlight to help them maintain their refreshing green color. I can keep faux pothos in a dark quiet room without any worries of them losing their appeal and aesthetic.

●     The one thing that all of my readers should know is that Pothos can be minutely, mildly harmful to humans and animals. Plus the pets like to chew on the leaves of the house plant and can make a mess in the area. With faux Pothos the leaves can be chewed on by pets without worries. So, in short, you and I can avoid many of these small inconveniences by using faux plants.

I have written a guide on “Hanging Flowers and Plants; Which one do I choose, Artificial or Real?“. Check this for more information about hanging plants and flowers.

Some common varieties of faux Pothos for home decor

As far as it’s about adding some greenery to your home, you can simply buy any potted Pothos plant. But they are all not the same. A true plant enthusiast will have the expertise to recognize different Pothos varieties available. Now according to me, each variety has its appeal and has a different role to play in the home decor. Following are some of the commonly used faux Pothos varieties that I love to work with.

Golden Pothos

These plants have heart-shaped leaves with golden, creamy streaks in them, hence the name golden Pothos. These are very common among faux Pothos and will make your place look pretty. They not only impart green but also cream color into your surroundings and help to add a unique color dimension to your setting.

Marble Queen Pothos

These Pothos are another type of elongated heart-shaped leaves. They have strips of creamy color in the more haphazard and natural pattern resembling a marble. The natural patterns in marble stone match the natural pattern of Marble Queen Pothos. They have a more rustic charm to them and would be absolutely perfect in a farmhouse-style decor. They impart their unique color palette to the surroundings with much love.

Jessenia Pothos

These are limey green in color and match Marble Queen Pothos in appearance. But their variation between colors is lesser as compared to the Marble Queen Pothos. Their variation and color difference are more towards lime and green so they impart fresh greenery to their surroundings. I suggest that their simple approach makes them perfect for Zen-style decor and modern-style decor.

Manjula Pothos

It’s a very unique and man-made variety of Pothos made in the university of Florida by scientists. They have their unique appeal and aesthetic. They have variations of grey, white, cream, and light green colors. Every leave is different. Some have large splashes of green, some have smaller but they make up for a perfect decorative item. Their unique and new outlook makes them a good option for contemporary decor themes.

Where do I put my Pothos?

These decorative faux plants are just the cutest and due to their green colors and patterns, are easily adjusted to all kinds of spaces. You just have to follow your heart and see where it goes. You can either keep them on top of the fireplace or the kitchen counter, you can also place them on the side of the window. I like to see the heightened faux Pothos with a climbing pattern at the edge of the sofa set. If you have French decor placing the green climbing Pothos in between white sofas would pair up nicely.

Another dimension I feel is heavenly is the vines of the Pothos reaching down on me from the roof with hanging pothos. I Look up and there they are, silently hanging and letting its branches down like the devil, silently watching our every move. I guess that’s where It gets its name “Devil’s Ivy”. So, add a spooky and unique element to your living room with hanging Pothos.

Another option I would like to suggest regarding the location of Pothos is in the bedroom. They would not only increase the decorative approach but also add a green color for health benefits. So, you can relax in your room, often look at the greenery extending from the pot and get your depression and anxiety down. Also, you will get your memory boosted and get an enhancement in creativity with green color.

While talking about outdoors I love placing my Pothos to pair up nicely with my outdoor plants. And I think keeping it on the terrace or porch can also be a good idea. So, you can decorate your area with their pretty green leaves.

Planters are also important as the plant itself. Don’t forget to check my guide on “How significant are the planters of faux trees?
