Some common types of palm trees used in home decor

Dysis lutescens

These are commonly called Areca palm, a yellow palm, and also a butterfly palm. This species is a habitat for Madagascar. The name butterfly is because the leaves of these palm trees grow and curve upwards with multiple stems and it makes up a perfect butterfly look. They are super cute, a smaller build as compared to other palm trees. These trees make up for a perfect ornamental tree.

Howea forsteriana

Also called Thatch palm, Kentia palm, and also Palm court palm. They are usually grown in Norfolk islands and start to grow up to many feet. They are a combination of green extensive fronds (a frond is a large and undivided leaf)  with brownish trunks. They add unique colors to any place they are placed in.

Rhapis excelsa

Also called Broadleaf Lady Palm, and also Bamboo Palm. It is mostly found in China and Taiwan. Their name is derived from the Greek and Latin language. The word Rhapiis means “Needle” while the word excelsa means “tall” in Latin. So they are thin and needle-like in appearance. These trees are broad leaves and segmented with evergreen dark color. They have multi-stemmed clumps with many leaves at the tip of a single stem. They look perfect in a simple setting.

Ravenea rivularis

Also called Majesty palm or Majestic palm. They are sold as small potted plants but once they are fully grown they reach up to a majestic height of 98ft (30 meters). Due to their perfect height, they are excellent for outdoor use. But they can also be kept indoors in their small sizes. They have the most unique appearance with long-stemmed leaves and browning tips. They are super common in home decor.

Can I keep the faux palm tree outside?

Yes! They are super amazing and perfect to be placed outside. The good quality faux palm trees are made of high-quality material and are perfectly Ultra Violet radiation-resistant. So, the sun rays would not fade out the color and appearance of these faux palm trees. So, these can be placed outdoors for longer with minimum maintenance.

How can I make my faux palm tree look more natural?

You can do that with just small enhancements. You can either place natural leaves around the tree. If you’re placing the tree outside, you can place food crumbs around the tree so that birds would be attracted. It would make your tree look more natural and life-like. You can sprinkle water on smaller indoor palm trees to increase their appeal. You can add some real rocks, soil, and sand to the pot to make it appear more natural. You can also apply foliage to outdoor faux palm trees if you want to go for an extra length.

How can I make my plants appear shinier?

You can either use warm water plus mild detergent and sprinkle on the leaves. Or make a half vinegar, half water mixture, and apply it on them. In both cases let the liquid set, and wipe it off afterward.
