Common Ideas based on locating the containers

Hanging containers

These containers hang from the support and just look pretty. These can be hanged with any support either it’s a wall or a rope attached to a shelf or with a branch of a tree. Hanging containers are used to save space and add a unique floating decorative element to your place. There are many types of containers in a hanging style that you can buy.

Tabletop containers

These containers are placed on a tabletop. These would look gorgeous sitting on a table near a sofa or in the sitting area. You can keep the table anywhere without needing to tie it like a hanging container. Get a small, shelved table, place your small plant container on top and your books and needed stuff in between. The best use of all the space without making a mess.

Free-standing containers

These containers stand freely from a support off the ground. They are perfect for all the rooms and gardens. These standing containers give plants the space to grow and extend their branches out of the container. Free-standing containers are easy to move in any place you see fit. Unused old worn-out boots:

Old leather ankle boots are such a unique and fun idea to grow your small plants in. They would not only help you get rid of old shoes and free up the space but also help you decorate your garden and find a new home for your plants. Leather is a good material as it is soft and can be poked holes into, to allow gaseous and water exchange. You can paint over your boots in any other color you like or match two pairs to make four same-colored pots for your plants.

Old bird feeders and cages

This is another way to utilize old worn-out stuff. You can use them to grow plants, easily decorate them, paint them over with pretty colors, use decorative notes and stickers, anything you like. Make your plant feel like home and turn the unnecessary stuff into useful decorative items. It would also save your money on buying a new container.

Wooden frame attached with ropes

Take a simple wooden frame, any size, and tie a rope from one end. Tie the other side of the rope to the sturdy support. Hang a small potted plant and voila! a unique and super cool container for your garden. It would save space by silently hanging from the support and give an extra unique appearance to your garden. However, it would result in drops of water trickling down onto the floor, so they are best to be hanged in outdoor spaces.

Old metal buckets

As discussed earlier, metal buckets can be easily used as containers, just drill some holes for water exchange. They are super simple, providing you with a rustic style of the container at home without any money and effort (well, some effort, to drill the holes). The best thing is you can either turn the bucket into a tabletop container by simply placing it on the table or hang it with a rope. Super easy and cheap.

Tea kettle as a plant container

You can use tea kettles and turn them into small plant containers. They are easy to handle, simple to use. You can take excess water out by the nozzle, it would also allow gaseous exchange and let the plant breathe through the hole. You can drill some tiny holes through the bottom as well. All in all, a good option for a simple, rustic, and unique item of decoration in your home. It’s a simple but effective and useful way to utilize an item you don’t want to throw out but are also not using.

Old tires that you’re not using

You can even use old worn-out tires as containers to grow your plants. Use a plastic sheet to cover one side and make a spacious big container. Add soil and plant your plants in it. The plastic sheet is easy to poke holes inside. They would make the easiest container with ample space to keep big-sized plants. You can either hang them with ropes, attach them with walls or, you can just place them on the ground. Paint and polish the old leather of the tire to make it appealing.

Simple cement cast in any shape you like

You can take wet cement and add it into a mold to solidify. Place your plants in it. The cement has microspores that let the water seep through and allow a gaseous exchange for the plants. Cement is heavy so cannot be hanged unless it’s a small container. You can paint over it or use the natural grey color of the cement to decorate your garden. You can make a square or rectangular structure or even a triangle based on the molding and your choice.

Using an old ladder for keeping pots

You can get a local home-based free-standing container using an old ladder and arranging your pots on it. It would save a lot of space because it can accommodate many pots of plants. It would also look great because you can get levels of pretty colors of plants and flowers. It’s a great idea to be placed outdoors and under a shed.

Deep dishes and Bowls

You can use deep bowls and dishes of plastic to keep the plants as well. They would be super easy to maintain and cheap to buy. Plastic bowls come in many colors so you can make an array of different colored bowls to make a fun pattern. You can use muted colored bowls of black, white, and grey for a modern style décor setting. Poke some holes on the sides of the bowls to hang them with wires or ropes and get you a hanging plant container. It’s just that simple.
