Why do I buy containers for my faux plants and what do I look in them

What does a plant say to its container? “You’re such a pot-head!”

I love plant containers to keep my plants because they provide a place for them to live, thrive, and grow. Containers keep the plants safe and save space otherwise used for gardening. They decrease the overall mess and increase the organized aura of the whole place. Containers are very popular among gardeners and homeowners because they provide all the needed stuff for the plants without needing to dig out holes in the backyard for growing plants.

Why do I need containers for my Faux Plants?

Buying containers for your natural plants makes sense and seems necessary, but why buy them for faux plants? Containers have mud and fertilizers in them that provide plants with nutrients to grow and hold water. But faux plants don’t need all that, then why buy containers for them? The answer my dear reader is that faux plants need support, need space, and need their place to stand tall, sturdy, and look pretty. Faux plants cannot be placed in any area without any support, they need structural assistance. And with containers, the faux plants would fully mimic the natural element without needing the maintenance of a natural plant.

What do I look for in a container for my faux plants?

This might not seem like an important task, but it has its importance alright. Some tiny details are important to be taken care of before buying yourself a container. Those little details are as follows

Size of the container.

The size of the container is important to create symmetry, a relation, and a pattern with the plant. The general rule of thumb that I found super helpful is that the size of the container should be three times the stem of the plant. And, the total circumference of leaves should be two times the size of the container. This creates a relation between the plants and the container. But of course, if you have less space like a corner or on the side of the chair, there can be exceptions. If you are looking to fill the awkward spaces using faux plants, then smaller containers can work too.

Style of the container

The style of the container is important because it would help you tie the whole theme of the place together. I suggest my clients always go for elements that make less noise and more contribution towards setting the theme of a place.

● For example, I would suggest a chic and straight-cut container for modern-style décor.
● French style and traditional setting of home décor need a traditional, stylish, and intricately designed container. Both of these styles need extensively stylish decorative items like grand crystal chandeliers and traditional vases.
● For contemporary themes go for a unique and new style of container.
● For zen style go for the earthy and minimalist style of container.
● For the farmhouse country style of décor, a rustic charm of the container would go perfectly.

The shape of the container

The shape of the container also relates to the style statement you are trying to make. I would suggest going for a square-shaped container for a modern-style décor. A circular container would perfectly be tied up with the traditional style of décor. A rectangular container with its new aura will look perfect for a contemporary approach. The shape of the decorative item is as important as the style of furniture placed in an area. I always use these smart tricks to play with things not apparent to make a style statement. I suggest the same to my clients and it works like a charm.

Material of the container

Material of a plant container either faux or not is another point to be considered. There are many options that I would suggest, each with its own appeal. Metal-made faux plant containers would give out a polished, and refined appearance but as we all know that metal is prone to corrosion. Ceramic and marble with their natural one-of-a-kind appearance would give out earthy and natural vibes but they are heavy to relocate and can crack or chip easily. Plastic is super cheap and lightweight but can fade out and lose its appearance over time. Every material has its highs and lows and it’s up to you to choose the best one that suits your needs. For example, if you feel the need to frequently move your faux plants from one room to another, don’t buy a ceramic container. If you have an indoor water fountain (there can be humidity in the atmosphere) then don’t go for metal made containers as it can result in corrosion, or place the metal container away from the fountain.

Weight capacity of the container

The amount of weight a container can carry is important because the faux plant might be light in weight but the extra things placed along with the faux plants are not. For example, you can add sand, marbles, rocks, stones, and decorative items to your containers. These materials are important to be added in the container, first, to keep the plant standstill and second, to increase the appeal and mimic the natural item as much as possible. Excessive weight can have different outcomes on different kinds of containers. The metal can bend out of shape, ceramic-made containers can just crack. Plastic containers can tear while moving to small distances. So, I suggest you check the holding capacity of your container before buying.

Color of the container

Colors can play with our minds, I.e., red color energizes us, blue color makes us sad and calm, yellow color boosts our mood. So choosing the right color would help you create a perfect color palette and also create a match with the plant. Choosing white and black seems plausible for a modern theme. Earthy tones are good for zen-style décor. Light colors would work perfectly for farm-style décor. You can go for white in French style décor to match the walls or you can create a contrast with bold colors like dark red, green, or blue.
