Can we add water to Faux Plants? Here are some simple DIY tips

“Don’t forget to drink water and get some sunlight – you’re basically a house plant with more complicated emotions”

Plants and water are a combination like the Kardashian sisters and plastic, the second one is super necessary for the survival of the first one. Fresh plants need water to grow and carry out basic life functions and it’s important that you water your plants regularly. But can we water our faux plants? Why not? Of course, we can. If earth can be a round, giant ball suspended in the vast universe, then anything is possible.

Is there a special faux water for faux plants?

There is indeed! A synthetic polyester resin or acrylic water with gummy, hard jelly-like consistency is commonly used as faux water. It is clear and has no color so it looks exactly like water from afar.

Why do I add water to my faux plants?

I like to perfectly match the natural element as much as I can so it can provide the best and natural feel. And no, I don’t legit add water in my faux plants (but you can add water to that). It’s actually a fake resin substance that gives the appearance of water. Some of the reasons why I prefer to add this faux substance for my faux plants is as follows:

It creates a sense of freshness

According to me, keeping my faux plants in fake water helps create a sense of freshness.  It would also enhance the appeal and aesthetic.

Freshness means spring and if you want to add some freshness to your home, check my article How I achieve a perfect spring look with faux flowers

It give support to faux plants

I know for sure that Faux plants decorated in vases would need something to give them support and structure. Fake resin water would be better than keeping the flowers in sand or stones especially in case of faux flowers.

It mimics the natural element perfectly

I think that faux plants kept alone in the transparent vases look bland. They do not give a sense of liveliness. You can add fake water in the vases and spray little real water on top, this way, flowers look even more bloomed and prettier than before.

No need to change the water regularly

If I want to replicate the natural element perfectly with minimal efforts, using this approach is the best. I love how I don’t have to change water regularly into my vases. Once I have added the fake resin water, that’s it. I can change it whenever I like.

I can keep the plants in my bathroom

While using faux plants set in faux water, I can keep this decoration in my bathroom to decorate it. The bathroom to be honest is like a middle child, mostly neglected. So using some smart tricks can help decorate your bathroom as well. I can add color and greenery to make your bathrooms look more fresh and easy to the eyes.

How do I make my Faux water at home?

There are some easy steps to follow which I have written below in detail.

I always start any DIY project after staking every product and accessory I would need so I don’t end up running around in between.

The stuff needed for this process are:

  • Polyester Casting Resin (it should be clear to imitate water).
  • An activator given along with the Resin.
  • You can buy a dye or an artificial colorant but I prefer no color of my faux water.
  • Rubber gloves.
  • A small tub or mug or old Tupperware.
  • Some old newspapers.
  • Old spare clothes or towels.
  • A plastic funnel.
  • Bunch of faux flowers or plants.
  • A vase or container of your choice.

●     I start my process of making fake water by using the outdoor area so I don’t end up ruining my floor. I lay down and spread my newspaper.

●     I add the resin in the mug and then pour in the activator. The instructions about quantities are written on the back of the product itself.

●     Next, I add in my activator that starts the hardening of the resin. Now, this step depends upon your preference, if you like jelly-like consistency then add less activator and vice versa.

●     After mixing the activator, I use the funnel and add the still liquid resin in the jar. Letting the resin set is pretty much the last step.

●     As soon as I feel my resin starting to harden, I stick my flowers and plant in. It’s just that easy and simple.

●     It’s wise to first measure the size and length of faux flowers so there are no problems fixing the flowers with resin.

●     The colorant is added before adding an activator but that depends on your preference. You can add this faux water in any kind or size of the container.

A super unique and out of the box insider

I am going to share with you a super unique idea that I bet most of you would love. What you can do is buy simple faux plants, keep soil and rocks in them and water them with real water.

If your faux plant comes with a Styrofoam base onto which the plants are embedded, cut out the upper portion of foam and add fresh soil. Believe me! When you water that fresh soil, the earthy natural fragrance you get from the wet soil is to die for.

I personally love the fragrance of soil and mud after rain and you can create that at home and get a whiff or two of that natural sweet scent.

This scent is so amazing I can give this to you in writing that it would calm you and help refresh your mind. If you don’t want scent anymore, then you can simply wait for the soil to dry up. It’s just that simple.

If you don’t want to make your own faux water, then no problem! You can always buy some exceptionally lovely arrangements of faux plants set perfectly in faux water looking prettier than ever.
